Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-21

This Privacy Policy explains how Mento (“Mento,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and discloses information about you when you use our website at mento.so, our mobile and desktop applications, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). You can contact us at support@mento.so for any privacy-related question or request.

1. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways:

  • Information you provide. Account details such as your name, email address, handle, password (stored hashed), and optional profile information. Content you create in Mento — spaces, topics, cards, notes, uploads (including PDFs and images), and voice recordings.
  • Information collected automatically. Device and browser information, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, log data, and usage analytics (which features you use and when).
  • Information from third parties. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and a unique identifier from that provider. Payment information is handled by Stripe; we receive a token and subscription metadata but never your full card details.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide, operate, and improve the Service.
  • To run AI features you invoke (generating cards, summarizing PDFs, transcribing voice notes, semantic search). Your content may be sent to our AI providers strictly to fulfill the request you made.
  • To send transactional emails (verification, password reset, billing receipts) and, if you opt in, study reminders and digests.
  • To prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not permit our AI providers to train their models on your content. Content sent to AI providers is processed only to return the result of the specific request you made.

3. Children and students

Mento is designed for learners of all ages, including school-age students. If you are under the age of 13, you may use Mento only with the involvement and consent of a parent, legal guardian, or authorized teacher. Parents and guardians can email support@mento.so at any time to review, correct, or delete information associated with a minor's account.

We minimize the data we collect from accounts identified as belonging to minors and we do not use that data for advertising or profiling.

4. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with:

  • Service providers (subprocessors). We use third-party providers to host, store, and deliver the Service. Current categories include cloud hosting and storage, email delivery, payment processing, and AI processing. A current list of subprocessors is available at support@mento.so on request.
  • Other users, only for content you choose to make public (e.g. published spaces, your public profile).
  • Legal authorities, when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
  • Successors, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

5. International transfers

Mento is operated from Mexico, but the Service relies on providers whose infrastructure is located primarily in the United States and other regions. By using Mento you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).

6. Data retention

We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records (for example tax records and fraud-prevention logs).

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw any consent you have given. You can exercise most of these rights from your account settings or by emailing support@mento.so. We will respond within the timelines set by applicable law, and you may also contact your local data-protection authority if you believe your rights have not been respected.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will notify you by email or in-app notice before they take effect.
